MISS UNIVERSE 2015

I am dedicating a post to my friend, Nia Sanchez for tonight, she is competing with 87 other women from different countries for the title of Miss Universe 2015. Nia, being one of the crowd's favorites, is representing USA. I've known her for the class, elegance and humility she owns and I'm wishing her the best of luck.

With that being said, I encourage you, my readers to accept your own flaws. Once you do, that's when you'll see your real beauty. Don't settle for being "perfect". This is a word that is SO easy to be given away by people who can't think of anything but. You've got to have a word. Choose it, own it, live it. You can do it weekly. Set a day where you figure out a goal that needs to be accomplished and set the word for it.

My DIY Mondays are dedicated to self-empowerment. After all, it's the best Do-it-yourself task we could ever do. I choose the word, "ELEGANT" for this week with Miss Nia's portrayal in mind and heart. She had set a very good example and I am truly proud of her.

NBC features the Miss Universe Pageant LIVE tonight in Miami. (This morning in Asia).

"Find Your Light"

Filipinos are naturally warm, friendly and hospitable. When foreigners ask what Philippines is like, I am very proud to describe the places, the food and most of all how our culture had evolved and that how we all have become survivors. In addition, the Filipinos are undeniably amiable, talented and genuinely concerned towards others. Despite the hardships that we face, we find light in any circumstance. Probably religion is one of the reasons how we do it and why we remain so. Also, Filipinos are happy people. They may have struggles but those don't stop us from celebrating life. With that being said, one of the greatest asset of a Filipino is his smile.

Hong Kong Disneyland agrees and it encourages Filipinos to come and visit its resorts and theme parks where you could unleash the light in you . The campaign to bring out the Disney in you in the Philippines had started with this video.

Right now, there are over 200 Filipino workers who make magic everyday in Hong Kong Disneyland. Experience the world class entertainment and guest service they give. Visit us in the park today!

NEW YEAR'S 2015

Two days ago, my friend, Ruth, wrote about an acquaintance who passed away at a very young age. It struck her to be deeply thankful of life than she had ever been since then. To quote:

"2014 is the year when I fully understood the phrase "Life's too short." It can be too short for some of us.", she said and I couldn't agree more.

Dying is inevitable. And I'll say it again as she emphasised further, "I can die anytime this year or the next. I can die anytime. It's not that I want to. It's just that it can happen unexpectedly, without warning." I'm not sure how but I'm sure that it's going to happen within the 21st century. In fact, 99.9% of us all may die within this century. Needless to say, dying doesn't exempt anybody.

Round round with Brave
Our friend, Round Round, from Taiwan had visited us to spend Christmas this year to be able to meet my daughter. Sending him off in the airport had brought tears to my eyes with these thoughts in my mind.  I was touched by his gesture of flying miles away from home just to spend time with us. Because in this life, "time" is the best gift anybody could offer. "Our" time is something that each of us own that is so precious as it would never come back again. So, as you give it away, it's giving away something that you can never have back. And he chose to spend it with us.

You see, I was thinking that I'm not sure when I would be able to see him again. I've seen people come and go but this year, being a mom had humbled me in so many ways that simple goodbyes become crystal clear. That there's no guarantee when could the last one be. I've always hated goodbyes but saying so is much better than a farewell not bid to the rightful. Like Ruth, I've also known of life taken away so abruptly, both from young and old, that there were goodbyes that were never said. As the movie, "Life of Pi" focused on showing, "it is the most painful goodbye of all".

Pushing aside all the need to fulfill resolutions and bucket lists, I would want to say, I am beyond thankful that I had grasped the real meaning behind the phrase, "Life's too short" myself. So, I would give time to my daughter more than anything else. I would always encourage people to see the world as how Ruth would be advising her younger cousins, nephews and nieces to travel whenever an opportunity allows them. I loved how she had a shout out on not wasting a minute, not even a second, on people who pretend to be her friends because there's no better way I could've said that. That's exactly what I wanted and needed to do. And the real ones who had been there no matter what would be shown and shared the best of me.
In addition, I would never be sorry for being who I am and loving what I do. I am a performer, a mother and still working. And I am to honour my marriage, my life and my family each time.

10 CHRISTMAS GIFT IDEAS FOR THE YEAR 2014

Seasons greetings folks! We're a week away from completing that shopping list yet again and I've come across some gift suggestions that may save you from cramming at the last minute. These are gifts that I would want for myself and that usually helps me how to figure out the best one to give since figuring out who's naughty and nice were already a huge work up.

Check these out and if you have a list of your own, don't hesitate to share it to me.

1. Nowadays, equality among the sexes are a trend. Since Emma Watson's controversial Gender Equality speech happened, there had become a conscious effort amongst the female species. They are making a name in the work force and in politics. They are empowered to make a breakthrough as much as the male species.

With that being said, Urban Decay's NAKED On-The-Go Palette would be the perfect gift for a fun, fearless female friend, loved one or relative. This is a new limited edition that can keep up with a busy woman's schedule. May it be a presentation that has to be done during the day or a deal to close over a dinner meeting at night, this palette can bring out the confidence in every lady who knows what she wants and how to get it. Complete with a blusher, bronzer, 5 different colours of eye shadow, a 24/7 Glide-on eye pencil and a mascara, this good buy gives you more than your money's worth. These are also all new shades that cannot be seen in the 1st 3 palettes that Urban Decay released so, it's quite exciting to try them on.

So decide fast and order it online by checking out Urban Decay's website.

Contigo AUTOSEALKangaroo Water Bottle
US$13.36
2. I am glad that exactly 4 months after giving birth, I will be able to go back to dancing in the parade. My core is getting strong enough and I feel good at surviving each workout. The truth is, as soon as my maternity leave ceased which was less than 2 months after giving birth, I resumed to active lifestyle as per advised by my gynaecologist.

My postnatal programme is still going on. My day job is a physically demanding one so I keep up with the athletic training I have to endure to get back to the usual fitness I had before. The real challenge is with my own self. Yet every time I go for a run, I find it a pain to bring a purse with me without a safe place to keep it in since i prefer running outdoors. But I came across this water bottle that has a compartment that can hold important items such as money or a key. For US$13.36, you can get the Contigo AUTOSEAL Kangaroo Water Bottle via Amazon.com available in different colours and design.

So, I believe that this is the best gift for an athletic friend. You wouldn't just be providing a handy water bottle, you're also sending a subliminal message for him/her to pursue a healthy lifestyle. You know what they say, health is wealth.

3. For your friend who'd rather sit on the couch with a cappuccino at hand and a book, I recommend giving that person a compilation of stories of real people. And who could be more real than the ones who live in New York?

Humans of New York
by Brandon Stanton
US$ 29.99
Although the website to get this doesn't guarantee delivery during the holidays, "Humans of New York" hold a Facebook account featuring some of the stories that are all touching, inspiring and moving. If you want to get hold of those by your coffee table, order at Keep.com.

4. For your god sons or daughters, it's easy to just give away money but for some, they find it an achievement when they are able to check their list since that always is never ending every year.

As a god parent, it's good to make them feel that you are looking after their welfare during winter by giving them presents that will surely extend the warmth of your love to them. And crocheted clothes are always a nice choice. You can do it on your own if you have time or purchase ones like these.

5. There will always be the techie friend that would not want anything but a cool gadget or a sublime additional to their collection. And for this year, I have come across the solution to the risky "cloud" for storage of personal files like photos, documents, videos and many more.

WD My cloud 4TB Personal Cloud Storage
4TB US$189.99

The WD My cloud 4TB Personal Cloud Storage - NAS (WDBCTL0040HWT-NESN) are now on sale in Amazon.com with a highly recommended review from getdatgadget.com. It maybe pricey but nowadays, it's surprisingly necessary to get hold of that much memories of your kids being able to show progressive skills on video, for that special moment at work when you got a colleague's priceless reaction as he/she gets promoted caught on camera or the everyday lunch out documentation that you've been recording.

6. Innovation may come in handy to somebody who needs coffee in the morning to function. I for one am guilty for being so. And personally, I'd like to have this awesome On/Off Mug that turns on (white) when you pour in something hot to it and remains off (black) when there's nothing in most especially this Christmas season. It wouldn't only wake you up, it also has a subliminal message to have a positive outlook as you are turned on and going.

On Off Mug
$US24

Financial Acumen Piggy Bank
US$ 29.95
7. Another nice gift for much older kids is this digital piggy bank which can be set to saving up for 3 specific goals or for 3 individual kiddos. It records how much is due every time and it keeps a reminder when you are supposed to deposit to keep it maintained. In addition, you can set the secret code to keep the savings locked. Unless it is inputted to the chamber, it will stay sealed and out of reach.

This may teach youngsters to save and work hard in pursuing what they aim to achieve. The FINANCIAL ACUMEN PIGGY BANK can be ordered via hammacher.com.

I am not quite sure if it's still available but I hope that this could help you come up with a DIY of your own.

8. A time with the family is always a time not wasted. And there's no better way to do this than to share a meal altogether. And it's good to have that thought that you are able to cook for your loved ones too anytime, anywhere. This X-Grill by Picnic Time is quite a huge help to attain this so consider it as a good gift for a family that values time being together or for a group that loves bringing a party everywhere.

X-Grill
by Picnic Time
US$ 49.95

Bluelounge Studiodesk
US$825.00
9. Undeniably, it had been a fast paced generation for most people whose tasks are done and achieved online. For some people who strive to work at home, this desk could be the best choice for a gift this Christmas.

Being organised every time is an edge to finishing a project efficiently. And an organised working environment reduces stress when crunch time happens. Knowing and keeping what you need within arm's reach saves time. Decluttering reduces your risk of getting distracted and ending the day with unfinished tasks.

This Bluelounge Studiodesk can stash cables and other crap that may interfere in keeping up with a busy person's daily tasks. It may be pricey but this desk is made up of real mahogany and the surface the covers the compartment is real authentic leather giving you a quality desk that will surely serve you for a long time.

10. Last but not the least, in the name of organisation, I suggest that if your friend likes everything tidy and is in need of that much space (since Asian abodes are fairly small), this Shoe Storage is the best gift because it may contract or expand to fit the closet. More details about the product and ordering may be done by clicking here.

Shoe Storage
US$ 52.00
I hope this list had helped you out. Have a Merry Christmas!!!

HOUSE OF DANCING WATER

Every year, for my birthday, I aim to get out of the country as a form of celebration to see and experience something new. For me, there's no better way than having a getaway as I age up to reconnect with myself and getting immersed in a different culture every now and then had served me well. I aim to achieve this on each trip.

This year, I received the best birthday gift of all which is my daughter, Brave. And so I thought to myself, maybe there's no need to travel this year. Yet, my husband had to take a relative to Macau so, he asked me discreetly how would I like to see the House of Dancing Water. I was exalted!

If you plan to eat around the City of Dreams, The House of Dancing Water
tickets offer 10$ discounts on selected restaurants and diners.

I have always aimed to watch shows as much as I can to feed my artistic soul but it was my first time to experience visual theatre. I've only held as much knowledge of Cirque de Soleil via youtube so as a critique, it was pretty challenging to analyse the story it presents to the audience. Everything that you need to know about this show can be researched on its website. Good thing I read about it before being able to watch so I somehow understood how the elements of the show are related to each other. My husband didn't and it was actually interesting to hear his commentaries solely based on what he saw. He somehow finds some parts astoundingly good (e.g. motorcycle stunt exhibition, synchronised aerial stunts and the group of black men forming pyramids during the fight scene) but it makes him wonder, how could he put the puzzles together with such modern presentation when the core of the story itself started with an ancient storyline. As bugging as it may seem, we got entertained overall.

The stage of the House of Dancing Water,
in City of Dreams Macau,
that is 26 feet deep and is 2 billion
worth of investment.
I am amazed by how the stage of 26 floors high could transform from being a deep diving pool to a dry surfaced stage in just less than 1 minute. The first act was welcomed by a strong performance of divers (perceived by Moi as pirates of some sort) coming atop a ship unleashed by a powerful mist. It could be a simple element seen by the audience but my jaw dropped when the thick mist could cover the ship and clear out to present another kind of stage in again, I have to mention, less than a minute. The lady being rescued who dances ballet very gracefully deserves that much applause but the leading man needs to pump it up in the fighting scene. It was pretty predictable when he wasn't the one doing the motorcycle stunt yet he had to act as such. I was kind of imagining that the evil queen could've been more powerful of a character if it was a black woman. I hope this wouldn't be thought of being a racist. In general, that character needs colour regardless if it's brown or black. We watched from B reserve and all that I could describe her with is that she's tall and skinny. This is from a critic's point of view.

Overall, I am in awe of how they can perform this show twice a day, 5 times a week. (For all those planning to see it, you have to know that they are dark every Tuesday and Wednesday.) No wonder the performers owned chiselled bodies. In that show, they dive, swim and dance all at the same time. They do things that are beyond performing. They all own special talents that are worth seeing. But in doing so, choose to be an empty vessel. Just take in what the show has to give and you'll find the uniqueness of the show. I believe comparison won't help too since it is like no other.

HOLIDAY SEASON 2014 IN HONG KONG

It's that most wonderful time of the year once again when a cool breeze blows as the carollers sing. As the holidays bring forth longer nights and lit streets to life, let's not forget the exciting parties where families gather together, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's to name a few. And so, the happiest place on earth, have prepared a lot of events and attractions in welcoming the approaching new year. I hope that this would help you in planning your weekends with friends to create the fondest memory of your 2014 Christmas Season.

First on the list is the newest parade featured in Hong Kong Disneyland last September 11, 2014. The Disney Paint the Night Parade where you'd be seeing Disney in a whole new light. Watch this:

Guests are invited to participate via the "Mickey Magic Paintbrush" that is LED empowered as well as the entire parade with 740,000 different lights that will surely mesmerise each and everyone.

It begins with a playful intro to the music of the whole parade. Tinkerbell and the rest of her fairy friends come out to share pixie dust to all the guests. As they welcome everybody to gather up, the magic unfolds. The fairy lights will surely tickle your eyes with its colours changing on cue with the music of Disney Paint the Night Parade.

Next in line would be the Monsters Inc. Unit. Sulley, together with his best pal, Mike, makes an appearance toggling the doors as their gateway to gathering that much "screams" from the kids. Wave hi and shout to help them fill the "SCREAM METER"!

The Cars Unit unveils a highlight in the form of the huge truck loader, Mack, with its gallant presentation of spectacular lights with Lightning McQueen. What makes it also a hit would be the human racing cars up ahead flaunting their hip hop choreographed to showcase the light effects of their costume.

The Little Mermaid float is not a disappointment as well. Be captured with King Triton's huge shellfish float where Ariel sings along to encourage kids to enjoy in painting the night. She flips her fins sensationally as the light flickers around her hair while she brushes it with the fork she discovered from the sea.

Belle stands tall on the other hand as enchanted candle floats and waltz dancers follow. Romantic candle lights will surely put you in awe. This huge long float is beautiful from start to finish. The symphony and harmony swoons you to a l'amour vibe.

Beauty and the Beast way back in 1991 landed a special place in my heart that nothing else would ever replace. The movie never fails to enchant me every time I see it (God knows how many times I saw this movie, a little over a thousand, I suppose) that this unit captures the romantic in me all over again.

As the parade moves on, cowgirls do an impressive choreography with poi-like props presenting the Toy Story favourites. This is another amazing float as Slink's spirals are lighted like no other and Woody and Buzz shout out to the kids and to those young at heart to enjoy painting with their brushes!

Finally, Mickey, Minnie, Donald and Goofy share a spectacular appearance altogether sitting each on a ball of light as Mickey (dressed as the one in Fantasia) stands atop a magical whirlpool of lightbulbs changing into different mystical colours. Spectacular as it is, your eyes would surely pop with this amazing parade. It's like no other so come down with your family and friends because no matter how I describe how fantastic it is, it's still better when you see it in person!

With that being said, the Disney Paint the Night Parade lets you experience magic that will surely be a reason to come back again during Christmas as it combines with the Frozen Experience.

Arendelle's Snow Queen Elsa and her sister, Princess Anna, will be joining the line up of princesses at Hong Kong Disneyland this Holiday Season! The highest grossing movie had attracted millions of spectators and as promised, the winter season will never be felt the same way again.

Capture a moment with them at Hong Kong Disneyland!!!

In addition to this delight, carolers grace guests at the park with favourite Christmas classics sung acapella, characters are dressed in their Christmas costumes and the whole park is decorated with abundant Christmas lights with a huge Christmas tree that is a must-see or would look nice for a selfie!

For the theatre lovers, the Bluebird of Happiness had been ringing a bell as it welcomes Christmas with its show days, December 19, 20 and 21.

The Bluebird of Happiness is a musical adaptation of a play written by Belgian playwright and Nobel Prize Winner Moerice Mataerlinck. It is about a brother and a sister who go on a quest for the magical bluebird, which leads them to exciting adventures and enchanting characters that help them learn a heart-warming and valuable lesson. This production, book and lyric by Jaime Del Mundo and original music by Rony Fortich, has received numerous acclamations, and rave reviews for its captivating story, music and talented cast, and magical production design.

This Christmas, the Bluebird of Happiness takes flight, for the first time in Hong Kong under MQ  Musical Theatre, a musical theatre that has been producing fun family entertainment to HK audiences, young and old, since 2002.

This is going to be the best Christmas gift you could give your family. Go on and check it out!

THE LAST TIME

I wanted to repost this very beautiful touching poem that speaks of how time would be constantly changing from embracinghomemaking.net. In addition, I would like to encourage everybody to be at the moment of where you're supposed to be, what you're supposed to be doing and how it should be done. It's good to multi-task. It's actually a strength from within of those willing to do so. But somehow, the android phones are taking so much time away from your loved ones when you are in an actual get together for example. It is such a bad habit that we wanted to always get involved with everybody's lives over these social networks by liking or commenting on their posts yet, the actual chance of talking to the person right in front of you is taken for granted. It's ironic to think that we want to be near thru it but so far from the people who's beside us because we're too busy with our phones.

Sunday, family day, today. Try logging out for an hour or two and talk to your loved one beside you. Unselfishly, undividedly. You don't know if it would be the last time anyway.

10 COMMANDMENTS OF SNACKING

An example of a good and healthy
snack brought to you by:
skinnymom.com
Having a snack is often neglected to be a random need to stay nourished because it's either you didn't have time to eat a proper meal or that you are on a diet and you are cheating on yourself making it believe that you're eating lesser than usual. Emily Bibb, Assistant Editor of Popsugar, aims to make you see snacking in a different perspective by writing the 10 Commandments of Snacking. You see, I've been researching for healthy substitutes on what I loved doing:

eating 3 big meals a day,
packing up on rice and
not including that much veggies in my diet.

I just gave birth and I would want to lose the excess weight yet be efficient in breast feeding my baby. How do I do that? By doing right exercise and eating healthy. And by eating healthy, I mean increasing the portion of veggies and fruits, decreasing that of carbs, substituting it with less sugary sources and most of all, maintaing good eating habits considering, portion sizes as mentioned earlier, eating more frequently: 6 times! Eating more frequently somehow keeps the body's metabolism up, somehow leaving no food not utilised.

So, I've come across an important lay out and I thought of sharing it in my blog as my own reminder. This is a repost of the original one infused with illustrations to help you better understand her point. Here it goes:

Chili's Queso Recipe:
Gluten Free!
1. Thou Shalt Measure It Out

Once you choose a snack measure out the appropriate serving, leave the kitchen and sit down to enjoy it. Avoid eating straight from the box of cereal or while standing at the kitchen counter, because you're more likely to keep going back for more (and more!).

2. Thou Shalt Fill in the Gaps

Use snacks to fill in the holes in your diet. If you didn't get your greens in at lunch, munch on a few veggies in the afternoon. This will ensure you have a  well-balanced diet - not to mention fruits and veggies are lower in calories and higher in nutritional value than a handful of candy.

3. Thou Shalt Acknowledge Cravings

Can't stop daydreaming about chocolate? Don't try to suppress it. Instead, see if you can come up with a diet-friendly alternative that'll satisfy the craving so you don't over indulge later on. Try these healthy chocolate snacks that won't undo your diet.

4. Thou Shalt Keep It Under 200 Calories

It's important to keep snacks between 150 and 200 calories, especially if you're trying to lose weight. Although this sounds small, there are plenty of options under 150 calories that are satisfying and filling.

5. Thou Shalt Consider the Workout

The right snack is key to a good workout and recovery. Pre-workout snacks should offer a combo of protein and carbs, and you should offer a combo or protein and carbs, and you should nosh on your snack about 30 minutes before setting out to exercise. For a good recovery, also choose post-workout snacks that are a combo of protein and carbs to build and repair muscle and quickly recoup lost energy.

6. Thou Shalt Pair It With Water

Fill a reusable water bottle or a glass with nature's beverage, and sip a few ounces after each bite of snack. The water will help you feel full and satisfied without adding any calories.

7. Thou Shalt Savor It

Since snacks are small, make your snack last at least 15 minutes and really savour each bite. Slowing down when eating will help you feel satiated by the time you finish, which will prevent you from wanting to reach for more. Don't forget to apply the same rule for meals too!

8. Thou Shalt Make It A Triple Threat

Don't just reach for a handful of crackers. For a satisfying snack, the right combination of proteins, carbs, and fats will keep you feeling full and allow your blood sugar levels to stabilise so you don't crash and burn. Stick to a combination of fruits, veggies and bread with nuts, yogurt or cheese.

9. Thou Shalt Pack It

When you're on the go, you're likely to snatch up whichever snack is most convenient (cough, cough, chips!). Rather than settling for unhealthy picks, make sure that you always have a healthy choice on hand. Keep protein-packed energy bars or a small bag of nuts in your nurse so that you're never forced to go with an unhealthy on-the-go option.

10. Thou Shalt Make It A Do For A Weight Loss

Although you're consuming calories, snacking can actually help you lose weight. It satiates your hunger, making you less likely to reach for high-calorie treats when you're beyond starving or to eat more at dinner than you normally would.
