Team Pilipinas All Girls Elite

The very first performance I did was in Araneta Coliseum, Cubao, Philippines. It was a wide arena that can hold an estimate of 16,000 people. The lights were bright enough to make me squint before our routine escalated for the half time show for the UAAP Basketball game, Senior Division. It took time for my eyes to adjust but once it cleared, it felt that I was giving in to a calling. I will never forget that mix of emotions - excitement, happiness, eagerness... hunger.

Fast forward to the present, I am now performing at the happiest place on Earth. It is a dream come true.

WHERE IT ALL STARTED

I studied in the University of Santo Tomas all the way from grade school until college. I loved being there. But, my family went thru a financial crisis after I graduated high school. Because I am so attached to my school, I tried my best to get in the Salinggawi Dance Troupe who was offering full collegiate scholarship back then once an applicant passes the try outs and is able to keep a satisfactory academic performance while in the group. It wasn't easy balancing school with extra curricular activities - every active student knows this is a fact. But I fell in love with dancing. I never felt that it was extra at all. It felt more of a purpose that motivated me to pursue excellence in school. OK, except with attendance because I never wanted to miss dancing for half time shows, so I had my share of failure due to absences. In the end, I had to pursue a different course in a different school, lost my scholarship - it was a lesson learned. It didn't stop me. Some of my seniors encouraged me to dance commercially and that's how my dancing career flourished. Now, I am performing internationally, catering to different types of crowds, working with people from different cultures. I almost may be doing the same thing everyday for 8 years but knowing that what I'm doing brings happiness to people alleviating them from any form of stress pretty much kept me going.

Cheerleading Days

halftime routine back in 2000.

Along the way, I have met superbly talented performers. And up until now, I find my jaw dropping whenever I hear co dancers before continuously expanding their gift.

Still a cheerleader in High School Musical shows...
For this post, my rehearsal master (back in my Salinggawi days), co-dancer in Whiplash Dance Company and a senior, above all, Ramon Pagaduan, share a silver medal with a group called Team Pilipinas All Girls Elite. I am truly proud that I know him as the team wins second place all over the world this year from snagging bronze last year in the International Cheer Union. Yearly, they aim to improve to be able to achieve far greater heights.

INTERNATIONAL CHEER UNION

WIKIPEDIA had officially written that the International Cheer Union is recognised by the Sport Accord as the governing body for all cheering competitions, from its rules, locations, judges up to anything that is in relation to it all over the world. This had reached 3.5 million cheering athletes thru the 105 members of the federation and is continuously honing positively cheering youngsters. This gives the young population something to look forward to as they rediscover their strengths, innovate their routines and enhance their creativity.

The world of dance is so vast that its expression cannot be limited to one genre alone. Philippines for one is not a country that excels in only one genre. So many names have been recognised internationally in ballet (Candice Adea), folk dance (Ramon Ubusan Folkloric Dance Group) and hiphop (All Stars). Since 2014, Philippines had been proving their might at International Cheer Union World Cheerleading Championships ranking Bronze. And as they win Silver this year, I took the opportunity to interview Ramon Pagaduan online to give credit to the group members, team coaches and most especially to add glory to Philippine talent over all.

TEAM PILIPINAS ALL GIRLS ELITE

Honestly, I felt more than eager to know how this superb group of young ladies were put together even if it's just thru an online interview. It's a shame not to meet them in person but it us a priviledge to be informed of a little of everything thru Ramon.

Their head coach is Mr. Randell San Gregorio who had been working and brainstorming with a bunch of assistant coaches (Ramon Pagaduan IV, BJ Sayno, & Ivy Tabares) to come up with a strong competitive routine year after year.

The all girls group is composed of members, aged 14-21, both from high school and college levels and were chosen via national try outs. With a strong pursuit of winning gold in ICU, they trained for 2 months, once a week at first (every Sunday). But as the competition drew nearer, trainings got extensive meet ups every day to practice from 10pm to 2am. This was the only time everybody could be present due to classes so it was challenging dealing with rehearsal schedule alone. Being bonded with a common goal, their team captain, Gel Kapunan and co captain, Kailee Arce-Ignacio share a mantra  with their coaches and the rest of its members, "Laban, Team Pilipinas!" ("Fight! Team Philippines!" in translation). Along with numerous representatives from the Philippines, the Team Pilipinas flew to Orlando, Florida, USA and gathered at the Walt Disney World, Resort with a hope that they'd be able to bring home the beef.

As the competition went on, they somewhat had the feeling that they'd win but they stayed humble and just prayed to God to reward them based on what they deserve.

The team had won the silver medal coming second after New Zealand. Albeit the misfortunes with some falls here and there, the entire routine had been strong and gave justice to the saying, "The show must go on!" After watching all of these kids' routines, I was telling myself, "What vitamins are these kids on these days?" I was a cheerleader but it wasn't that intense during my time. Ha! But I'm proud of Ramon and the rest of the coaching staff for they were able to bring in these exciting elements in the cheer dance to make it possible for these executioners to excel.

RAMON PAGADUAN IV

STARTING OFF

Ramon had always shown leadership back then as he became a rehearsal master as soon as he became a senior of the UST Salinggawi Dance Troupe. When I was just starting to learn how to mount and dismount, a basic skill a cheerleader should possess to go further in the training, I remember very well Ramon being present already. He was one of the guys pushing newbies in perfecting their pushups. It's the sort like lifting a girl by two hands while lying down. Picturing that, cheerleading practices are not a joke at all. And if you think teachers and coaches could get strict as they train you up to a point that they don't care, that's entirely a lie. THEY DO CARE MORE THAN ANYBODY ELSE! They are just fulfilling their duty of bringing out the best in you that's why a certain level of "pushing" needs to be done. From time to time, they also struggle seeing the students undergoing stress.

Getting personal with one of the coaches, I asked Ramon how he handles situations like these. His family is important to him that his wife is the first one who gets hold of the information. Even the most recent achievement that he experienced, he called his wife first sharing the hunch from his gut that they have a chance to win the ICU championships.

Ramon had taught for quite some time now (had started in 1996 when he was still in his second year college) and has handled numerous teams. He currently is the team coach of St. Paul College, Pasig, High School Division that earned him 3 WNCAA Championship awards (HS Division) and is the Head Coach and Choreographer of the UST Salinggawi Dance Troupe where both of us had started dancing in. It's such an honour to handle a task of continuously moulding a group knowing that you started from the very same one.

TRAMPOLINE OF EVENTS

From handling a lot of teams, Ramon had become honed to expertise as he became knowledgeable along the way. He continuously researches, continuously open to advice and inspiration and remains focused and determined to win each time. The task was daunting since winning the cheerleading competitions had become a big deal amongst schools. Most especially, University of Santo Tomas, who had held straight championships in the UAAP Cheerleading Mania.

Being able to serve back to where you came from is such a prestige but it often comes with great expectations. And the worst part is, the temptation to address these expectations build up crazily. With this kind of process, Ramon chooses to calm down, gets to work by squeezing his creative juices then works hard in making it happen. These undertakings were all a blessing in disguise. It had made Ramon ready for any kind of challenge.

From the coaches, to the dance captain, and to each and every one that compose Team Pilipinas All Girls Elite, it's undeniable that all of them had to deal with great expectations from colleagues of their own. In general, the fact that the team won Bronze last year was a challenge in itself so they were aiming to keep it or go farther than that. None of us are perfect. But, as shared by Ramon, the group had trained hard then prayed hard. They all have the same intention of dancing all for the glory of God, that every step they do, it'll all be because they want to give back to the people and spectators the talent that was bestowed to them.

With that being said, I asked Ramon how it feels that God had blessed them abundantly by being qualified, getting the routine finished on time, being able to perform internationally and most especially, winning Silver out of all the teams that had joined. He simply answered, "I'm blessed." According to him, he's most thankful to the entire process of how the team developed and had kept the faith towards themselves in giving their best. It's always a prestige for Philippine talent to be recognised abroad but with this success comes the hope in Ramon that his seniors, teachers and the entire Salinggawi alumni (and those by heart) would also be proud of what he had become. I was once part of the Salinggawi family and I, for one, am proud.

HOW TO BE CONSISTENT IN GOING TO THE GYM

There's a lot of articles that
state reasons why people should exercise.
There are also a lot of videos
that were made for people to follow when working out.
But I guess what lacks out there
are ways on how to stay committed with your exercise regime.

I am a mom of an 8 month old and I'm proud to say that I'm 1.5 kilos (4lbs more or less) away from my non-pregnant weight and still progressively losing the excess baggage that settled well in the abdominal area and my extremities during the process. OK, that may not have an impact so I'm going to lay it out there for the record "for the first time" of how extensive my weight gain had become.

Well... it's just 50 lbs. all in all. Hahahahaha!!!! Wow! I said it!

I think you'd agree if I am not going to sound so bad if I had lost the other 46 lbs. in the same rate I gained it since I'm on my 8th month post partum. Probably on the 9th, or .... wait! let me rephrase that, "hoping and willing" by next month, I would lose the remaining 4 lbs. With the nature of my job, this will be done easy breezy. Nothing to worry about.

A lot in the industry I worked for (entertainment) had done probably what I have (going back to their non-pregnant weight), in just a matter of a month. No kidding... here's a video of a good friend of mine Hanedy Sala, 3 months after giving birth to her 1st child.

I'm pretty sure you were left in awe with that. Because besides being a magnificent dancer, you would just really ask over and over "For real? She's 3 months post partum while dancing like that?" But then with the 50lbs. I gained, please don't judge, I was carrying a half-Samoan baby... lol! I know some of you may say, "Regardless...". But like what I said, no judgements.

Anyhow, let me get to the point. It is always a tough call to get your ass up to exercise. Some who never had a baby experience the same dillemma. So multiply the feeling by 10, that's how a mama would feel. Recovering from carrying the baby for 9 months, giving birth and taking care of the baby are challenges alone so sometimes, mamas could get lazy. So how did I go about these challenges as I needed to trim down ASAP? Here's how:

1. REMEMBER THAT THIS IS NOT FOR ANYBODY ELSE BUT YOU.

The first in the list of the most powerful words I consider is the word "YOU". You are your biggest competition so before you start committing to a routine, regardless if it's about working out, eating clean or just getting off a vice, always go back to the main reason WHY you are doing this. It's to become a better you. This way, excuses, setbacks and distractions would be kept aside as much as you will.

2. DEVELOP A HABIT.

They say, if you want to develop a habit, do something consistently everyday for 30 days in the same way, during the same time and it would sink in to your system somehow. Well, guess what, it did for me. I would not be quoting anybody or describing somebody else's story, I will be speaking of my own experience instead.

At the beginning, it was truly SHIT. I tell you that. Coming from your laid back, serene maternity leave to right away embracing a physical activity was such a struggle. But then I chose to put it at the start of my day so that at least I could tell to myself, "I just have to do an hour and a half of this and I'm free to do whatever I want with the remaining time. So, as I go thru progressive exercise routines, (from Pilates to A LOT of stretching to  stepping to mini trampolines to jogging to cardio workouts, to yoga then to "INSANITY" workouts to running) that's all that I think about. It's all going to finish anyways and I'm free in the next 22 1/2 hours of the day. In the end, I always feel good every after work out session.

3. HAVE A POSITIVE PERSPECTIVE.

"Be the girl you'd be looking at
because you know how to walk
that much number of work out
routines confidently."
Running with the unusual weight gain could be a bitch on the knees. And knowing that excess fat in the belly is just in the way as you aim to establish a pose while doing yoga is such a distraction. What's worse, no matter how you want to stay dedicated and focused, stress cramps you up and pushes you to give up. Stress in handling the baby at home (moms, I know they are bundles of joy but there are times that they really get in your nerves), stress brought about by the hormones, stress about not having time with the husband, or you are just plainly tired to name a few. Ultimately, frustration, and not stress, just pours on you when a toned, beautiful, ok, perhaps skinny, lovely young lady passes in front of you in the gym as you balance yourself on the gym ball.

As you complete your work out, you look in front of the mirror all sweaty and you tell yourself, she didn't even look half of how messy I am. You'd be restless in asking yourself, "Am I doing the wrong thing?", "Why are there no visible changes?".

My friend, stay positive by drilling in your mind and planting that hope. You should be able to convince yourself that it takes time. Everything takes time and if you are honest with how much effort you put to your routines, like not cheating and completing the 100's, you will reap it later on. In my case, I was thinking the whole time who gets paid to work out? I know very well there are people who pay others to be their personal trainers just to keep fit. But I have all the means to do so at the workplace. So instead of taking off time from home to keep fit, I do exercise during working hours. I believe that's a blessing in a blessing. I work to get fit and strong. We got a gym that I don't have to pay a membership to benefit from. So you see, it's in how you see things and how you acknowledge gifts in the ordinary days.

4. STAY INSPIRED.

You got up already, you had exerted effort in booking a session in the gym, you enrolled yourself in a ZUMBA class and you already are present, make sure to make the most out of it. Believe in the power of the present and believe that a day always ends up good when you decide to go to the gym. Again, this is based on my own personal experience.

I would also advice you to have a vision board. Don't aim for that skinny ass. Aim for a toned healthy body. Some of the celebrities that I look up to are:

a. INA RAYMUNDO - a Philippine celebrity, mother of 5 and had severe stretch marks on the abdomen. As of today, she proudly wears the stretchies. She ignores that and uses her time on investing on herself instead.

b. JENNIFER LOPEZ - I admire her ability to stay fair to herself by submitting to what her body was used to from the very beginning, PERFORMING. At the very moment she's giving this to herself, she's giving to the people what she's made for. She sets up trends, inspires artists, respects her culture and her craft. She makes sures that she delivers and she never settles for less.

c. MIRANDA KERR - who here never admired a Victoria's Secret angel? I mean, besides the lady boys, the VS angels belong under the category labeled "PERFECT"? And Miranda along with the rest who are now moms serve as an inspiration for me because somehow, no matter how perfect they could be, I'm sure they've handled some SHIT!

You can put up a list of your own or you can pin up a wardrobe style you've been wanting to try up by the mirror so that it'll serve as an inspiration.

5. FOLLOW IT UP.
Tomato, Cucumber
Avocado Salad

Don't expect massive results when you always give in to binge eating. There may be rough decisions to make as per food choice, food serving and how often you should eat. The usual advices like just eat what you need, have 6 small meals (or more) in a day and choose foods that are high in nutrients and just with the right amount of calories, all surround the idea of keeping an active metabolism. The feeling of being deprived of what you are used to having can be a pain. Just in case you couldn't find a reason to hold on to a strict diet, consider yourself as an investment that's why you are doing this. You see, once you develop the habit of nurturing yourself with healthy food, you will own a strong sense of wellness. Also, in doing this, no sense of guilt would creep in. From doing your exercise routine, you will need to replenish so don't be too harsh to yourself when coming up with the diet. Make sure that it suits the activities you do. Give your body what it needs. Have ample rest, get fed well. Eat clean.

This way, you'd see results probably double of what you would expect from somebody's who's just doing exercise alone. And when you do, you'd be more driven. You'd love to go to the gym more because besides being able to do what you couldn't before (holding that V-position for your abs longer than usual), you get to wear the clothes that you were longing to rock.

6. GET INFORMED OF ITS BENEFITS

7. KEEP ALLIES WHO HAVE THE SAME DRIVE AS YOU OR ARE EVEN MORE THAN DRIVEN.

Positive reinforcement brings out the best from a person but negative, unsolicited remarks trigger something inside us that may push you to running an extra lap. It pushes us to the limit, a kind of a motivational force that encourages us to do the impossible. It usually serves as the stronger source of motivation. But of course, you need to hear what really is the TRUTH. And the only ones whom you will allow to say it would be your friends. The trainer? I'm not so sure. If he/she is professional enough, then consider him/her a friend. Some could just really be gold diggers.

So, the main point....  do keep those who push you and support you. It would be great if they join you so that lazy days would be put into a minimum. It would be great to have a gym buddy. Just make sure you are in the same pace. You both don't want to end up in the Butcher's Club after a hard work out. Some encourage cheat days. Give this to yourself on a weekend for a breather because rewards also can drive you to endure a week's workout. Gym buddies serve as the people whom you would count on when you are stricken with the bed weather.

8. DRESS UP.

Dressing up is one of the fundamental ways on how to feel good about yourself. When you are able to put on your style, you can never go wrong with what you're motivated to accomplish. It goes the same with working out. Besides the fact that you are comfortable with your own sense of self, you become more driven because of the confidence dressing up brings. You'll be dealing with a lot of mirrors in the gym just to have the consistent feeling of getting convinced to continue achieving further.

As to my personal experience, I love a good pair of trainers/running shoes. I love running but I got to have the right shoes. It's hard to stay motivated when your body is in pain. Invest on good quality shoes, if you prefer cardio workouts. Some are manufactured light enough to reduce shock to the knees. Invest on colourful workout clothes if you prefer working out by doing Zumba, cycling and aerobics. Besides seeing yourself standout, it actually motivates you to standout in terms of performance. When you feel good, you do good. It just flows. Never settle for ill-fitted ones, most especially for the midrib bras. This way, you keep safety at bay. You don't want to expose private parts too as you do your handstand as your finishing challenge for your morning of yoga.

Below are examples of NIKE's newest design for their work out clothes for women.

9. KNOW THE THINGS THAT YOU HAVE TO GIVE UP.

Set your priorities. Commit to them and know that you should never give up on yourself. Instead, think about the things that you should cut off. Excuses, distractions, laziness. If you know you are more likely the person who procrastinates, do something about it. Motivate yourself by having something to look forward to.

You have to realise that no trainer could help you, and no person can for that matter, if you don't help yourself. Start off disciplining yourself by saying "no" to people, things, situations that would not help you become a better you.

Listen. For me, I wasn't the person who had sweet tooth, I am not a fan of soft drinks nor juice. But I loved rice. So, it was truly a challenge to find a substitute for it. I also loved coffee so I just put minimum amount of sugar so that I could still enjoy it. I also made a decision that I would just eat according to how I would need the food. I am a parade dancer so, I cannot really eat that much of a hearty meal before and after because I may vomit in the end because of sympathetic impulses as my body is constantly at work. We also have short time allowance to eat and make the food get churned. I consider this as an occupational hazard. But there's always a possibility to go around any challenge by doing number 2, developing a habit. I managed to work up my schedule. In this way, my system utilises the food efficiently aiding a fast metabolism, therefore making everything I eat burned up.

Some may need to cut off ties with people who always say they can't accomplish something such as losing weight or bulking up. First, it's not healthy to keep people like this in your life. You cannot expect yourself to remain positive if you're surrounded with negative people. Situations like divorce, loss or bankruptcy may take more than a motivation but exercising could help out in time in boosting your self esteem as you take one day at a time.

10. EMBRACE WHAT YOU LOVE DOING.

Choose what makes you feel good and faithfully work around it. If you love dancing, it ain't easy when you truly do the moves since the core needs to work together with the mind's creativity. If you love doing circuit training, the body goes thru a lot of different kinds of stimulating workout and that's how you lose weight thru it. Due to a wide range of motion, the joints may undergo a lot of stress that you need to know how to avoid injuries. Learn how to listen to your body. In that way, you can progress with your training and you'll end up loving yourself for being able to do what you couldn't before. My target is to at least gain success with my pull ups. For now, it's more of a hanging and no pull ups but I'm not going to give up. If you think you can join the triathlon competition, train for it, go for it. There's no time but now and this is the youngest you can be. Set a deadline and accomplish the impossible. Either way, whether it's for sports, career or life itself, you'll benefit from the discipline you're going to gain from the process.

It's your turn. Complete my list by suggesting another way as to how to be consistent in going to the gym. You will be helping me out in return. Stay fit and embrace a healthy lifestyle. Health is wealth for real.

HOW FINANCIALLY HEALTHY ARE YOU?

Today marks a milestone in my life for deciding on making some investments. I came across this one which helped me into finally landing on one. For my #DIYMonday post, allow me to share these steps from the lifemanagement4filipinos.weebly.com for you to have a way to review your financial status. It is in the website's appendix.

"How Financially Healthy Are You?

The Lord will grant you abundant prosperity... The Lord will open the heavens,
the storehouse of his bounty, to send rain on your land in season and to bless
all the work of your hands.
You will lend to many nations but will borrow from none.
-Deuteronomy 28:11-12

Are you financially sick or healthy?
It depends on how many steps you've taken towards financial health.

As a way of review, I will share with you the Six Steps to Financial Health. If you notice, I put a Step #0 because this is a faith act. How can a poor person give? But that is the challenge. When he becomes generous, he attracts more generosity upon his life. Here they are...

Step #0: Give to God a Monthly Love Offering (Start with 10 percent)

This is the purpose of money - to use it for love. And tithing is the "training wheels" to learn how to do this. Each month, set aside a fixed percentage of your income to God and the poor. And be open to the blessings that will flow to you.

Step #1: Free Yourself from All Bad Debt

List down all your bad debts and declare when your Freedom Day will be. Never borrow for anything that doesn't put money into your pocket. Renegotiate with creditors if you have to.

Step #2: Increase Your Income and Start a Sideline

Grow yourself, your skills and your abilities. In your job, be known as someone who works fast. Always get more responsibilities. ("Sir, I finished the project. Is there anything else you want me to do?") Your boss will be forced to promote you. And sell something on the side and keep on learning.

Step #3: Get Protection (Insurance) Equal to 10 Times Your Annual Expenses

Your goal is to be self-insured. But while your investments haven't reached that point where your passive income is equal or greater than your expenses, you need to buy insurance.

Step #4: Create an Emergency Fund in the Bank Equal to Six Months' Expenses

These are for your daily expenses as well as unforeseen expenses. Having an Emergency Fun prevents you from dipping into your long-term retirement fund.

Step #5: Create Passive Income via Businesses and Investments Equal to or More Than Your expenses

This is financial freedom. It is the place where, even if you stop working, you can still live your present lifestyle.

As you take one step after another step, you gain in financial health.
Friends, this book is only a start of your exciting journey towards material and spiritual abundance.

Keep learning. Read books on money. Attend seminars on money. Get mentors and financial coaches.

Remember: You create your future by your choice today!"

VIDEO LINE UP FOR A FESTIVE CINCO DE MAYO

Hello everybody! There's only one reason why we should be celebrating Cinco de Mayo and that is LIFE. You see, the unlikely victory of Mexicans over the French forces at the Battle in Puebla way back 1862 was short lived yet it boosted Mexican troops and Mexican morale in general. And I believe there's no other way to celebrate this than a little booze and music after a good hearty meal. Not necessarily Mexican, here's to share my new 5 additional songs in my playlist that just make me dance in an instant.

Enjoy folks!

1. LIPS ARE MOVING - by Meghan Trainor

Why is it no. 1? I just love how she embraces her true self. And not just that, she's fierce in her own cute way. My daughter loved her first featured single "All About That Bass". This video on the other hand, features the "Les Twins" and "Chachi Gonzales". They're my favourite dancers but Chachi's talent fee seemed so high probably that's why she just stretched in one part of the video.

2. SHAKE IT OFF - by Taylor Swift

Now, stress could take its toll on us. To some, they treat Cinco de Mayo as a holiday. Or, for those that are just rich and/or financially free, it's another way of partying, so, if you just have that excess baggage from the previous week, this could be a perfect song to help you shake it off your shoulders to be able to fully have fun. We call this song a G.V. (good vibes) kind of music.

3. UPTOWN FUNK ft. Bruno Mars - by Mark Ronson

This MTV was made following the old school style. Everytime I watch this, I dance with my daughter because it's very upbeat and somehow it doesn't tire us at all. Bruno Mars is truly exceptional with his talent. His MTV's too leave a mark on every fan as well. It's different from each other but it got that touch of funk.

4. FLAWLESS - by Beyonce

The new vibe that Beyonce is emitting is contagious. It's bold and empowering. If you want to be extra confident for an important Monday meeting, for a run or for a date, simply keep this latest album attune. Les Twins are here once again by the way.

5. SEE YOU AGAIN - by Wiz Khalifa

This touching single plays in the background as the last Fast and the Furious movie highlights Brian O' Conner and Dominic Toretto parting ways. It's much of a slow jam that requires lots of cool hip hop bounces. My passionate contemporary dancer friend, Crease, had choreographed a little part of this song and it just hits me straight thru.

So, there you have it, my 5 favourite hits as of Cinco De Mayo.

Do you believe in GOD?

Professor: You are a Christian, aren't you son?

Student: Yes, sir.

Professor: So, you believe in GOD?

Student: Absolutely, sir.

Professor: Is GOD good?

Student: Sure.

Professor: Is GOD all powerful?

Student: Yes.

Professor: My brother died of cancer even though he prayed to GOD to heal him. Most of us would attempt to help others who are ill. But GOD didn't. How is this GOD good then? Hmm?

(Student was silent.)

Professor: You can't answer, can you? Let's start again, young fella. Is GOD good?

Student: Yes.

Professor: Is satan good?

Student: No.

Professor: Where does satan come from?

Student: From ... GOD ...

Professor: That's right. Tell me son, is there evil in this world?

Student: Yes.

Professor: Evil is everywhere, isn't it? And GOD did make everything. Correct?

Student: Yes.

Professor: So who created evil?

(Student did not answer.)

Professor: Is there sickness? Immortality? Hatred? Ugliness? All these terrible things exist in the world, don't they?

Student: Yes, sir.

Professor: So, who created them?

(Student had no answer.)

Professor: Science says you have 5 senses you use to identify and observe the world around you. Tell me, son, have you ever seen GOD?

Student: No, sir.

Professor: Have you ever felt your GOD, tasted your GOD, smelt your GOD? Have you ever had any sensory perception of GOD for that matter?

Student: No, sir. I'm afraid I haven't.

Professor: Yet you still believe in Him?

Student: Yes.

Professor: According to Empirical, Testable, Demonstrable Protocol, Science says your GOD doesn't exist. What do you say to that, son?

Student: Nothing, I only have my faith.

Professor: Yes, faith. And that is the problem Science has.

Student: Professor, is there such a thing as cold?

Professor: Yes.

Student: No sir, there isn't.

(The lecture theatre became very quiet with this turn of events.)

Student: Sir, you can have lots of heat, even more heat, superheat, mega heat, white heat, a little heat or no heat. But we don't have anything called cold. We can hit 458 degrees below zero, which is no heat, but we can't go any further after that. There is no such thing as cold. Cold is only a word we use to describe the absence of heat. We cannot measure cold. Heat is energy. Cold is not the opposite of heat, sir, just the absence of it.

(There was pin-drop silence in the lecture theatre.)

Student: What about darkness, Professor? Is there such a thing as darkness?

Professor: Yes. What is night if there isn't darkness?

Student: You're wrong again, sir. Darkness is the absence of something. You can have low light, normal light, bright light, flashing light. But if you have no lights constantly, you have nothing and it's called darkness, isn't it? In reality, darkness isn't. If it is, well you would be able to make darkness darker, wouldn't you?

Professor: So what is the point you are making, young man?

Student: Sir, my point is your philosophical premise is flawed.

Professor: Flawed? Can you explain how?

Student: Sir, you are working on the premise of duality. You argue there is life and then there is death, a good GOD and a bad GOD. You are viewing the concept of GOD as something finite, something we can measure. Sir, Science can't even explain a thought. It uses electricity and magnetism, but never seen, much less fully understood either one. To view death as the opposite of life is to be ignorant of the fact that death cannot exist in a substantive thing.

Death is not the opposite of life: just the absence of it. Now tell me, Professor, do you teach your students that they evolved from a monkey?

Professor: If you are referring to the natural evolutionary process, yes of course, I do.

Student: Have you ever observed evolution with your own eyes, sir?

(The professor shook his head with a smile, beginning to realise where the argument was going.)

Student: Since no one has ever observed the process of evolution at work and cannot even prove that this process is an on-going endeavour, are you not teaching your opinion, sir? Are you not a scientist but a preacher?

(The class was in uproar.0

Student: Is there anyone in the class who has ever seen the Professor's brain?

(The class broke out into laughter.)

Student: Is there anyone here who has ever heard the Professor's brain, felt it, touched or smelt it? No one appears to have done so. So, according to the established Rules of Empirical, Stable, Demonstrable Protocol, Science says that you have no brain, sir. With all due respect, sir, how do we then trust your lectures, sir?

(The room was silent. The Professor stared at the student, his face unfathomable.)

Professor: I guess you'll have to take them on faith, son.

Student: That is it sir ... Exactly! The link between man and GOD is FAITH. That is all that keeps things alive and moving.

P.S.

That student was EINSTEIN.

BUBBLE SOCCER

Want to know what's recently trending today in sports? Well how about feeling how marbles clashing with each other do for a challenge? I'm pretty sure you've played Pinball too? Picture this, those marbles and pin balls on steroids and that you are wearing the huge ball overhead and that you could walk with it. Oh! Let me rephrase that, "in" it. OK, now, put it up a notch more.... play soccer with it!

Yes! Bubble Soccer is "it" nowadays people!

Now, what you need to know about this sport is that it is waaaayyyy beyond hilarious!

It will truly knock you off your socks but it's not that easy. According to the Steve Harvey Show, this Plastic Bubble Soccer a.k.a. Plastic Bubble Football was from Denmark and was popularised in the U.S. and had found its way here in Hong Kong. Now, from the name itself, you play soccer wearing the plastic bubble yet tackling is completely legal and that there are no fouls that would be counted. Before I go further with my experience with it, I'll give you an outlook thru this video first.

You might be curious as to how the mechanics go. Well, Hong Kong Bubble Soccer has 3 rules:

1. NEVER attack an opponent from a blind side.

As I have put on the bubble soccer, it was kind of a constricting back pack that compromises your peripheral view and limits your physical activities. Only your feet can move. Since you're basically wrapped by the whole bubble, your legs and core become your power (to keep your balance). Hence, you ability to turn around and check behind you is almost impossible. To avoid injuries and awful accidents, this becomes the number 1 rule.

2. NEVER attack from behind.

To give emphasis to the first rule and to make it clear, this has to be specified.

3. NEVER attack an opponent/anybody while they are getting up.

Let them settle first. After they are able to gain their balance, wait 'til the referee resumes the game.

My husband's workmates had put up this event to involve each others' families and they chose well for Soccerball is a fun filled experience. They had divided the participants into 5 groups and my team had won 3rd place that evening. I was in my 4th month of recovery from giving birth so it was pretty challenging for me. I was also wearing my boots and needless to say, it's better to dress up appropriately (wear rubber sneakers) to avoid sprained ankles. Also, bring an extra shirt with you because wearing and carrying the plastic ball alone could make you sweat like a pig.

Fitness wise, this may help anybody who's trying to lose weight. Guaranteed that you'll shed off pounds in no time. The coolest part of it all is that, you are having too much fun that you would hardly find it boring like the other forms of exercise.

THE CHAMPS
My husband is into SPORTS and so were everybody. They were pretty serious about it that's why in the end, the game became intense. Every single player was capable and were competitive. Some got hurt along the way because of the critical kicking to make a goal. Overall, stretching is needed and caution is to observed at all times. Other than that, enjoy letting go and this is definitely something to add to your pocket of firsts because of the unique enjoyment it creates.

Here's a clip of one game. Notice how it could get rough and how important it is to follow the rules. Forgive the background comments though.

7 BUSINESS OUTFITS

Mondays are all about EXPECTATIONS

Mondays expect you to be at your best. Mondays expect you to be functional and efficient. Mondays expect you to be at it! Mondays are all about meetings, new clients and product launching. Mondays are about buses, lattes and taking down notes. Mondays are all about being in demand and being on time.

You on the other hand aim to please.

You aim to be present. You aim to conform. You aim to impress and most definitely, you aim to excel. It's important that you make clients remember you. And there's no other way to start smoothly about it other than being a good representation of what you do best.

Whether you are a lawyer, a flight attendant, a professor or an artist, there's always an expectation behind the way you carry yourself. There's a wide array of clothes to keep up with the great demands of any job but you don't want to get in trouble with that. You want to avoid mismatched ones and you wouldn't want to wear it disproportionately. It's important that you own at least one set of business clothes. Besides, I know that the actual dream here is, to be your own boss someday.

So, today, stand in front of the mirror and say this to yourself loudly and proudly, "DAMN, I LOOK GOOD!" If you felt even an inch of hesitation there, go back and change!

There's nothing that beats a well-groomed vibe. When you know that you have dressed to impress, you are more likely to give out that energy to other people as well. And confidence is something that can never be robbed from you. On job interviews, a first impression is always considered. And being on the go ain't an excuse to just put on "something". Here are some suggestions that you may find helpful.

1. Business jackets and blazers in dark shades demand respect right away. But the light garment, to line the suit down under, says a lot about the wearer. This signifies that despite working hard, she finds time to unwind by riding ferries and sitting down at the park. This set may be observed amongst those who work for somebody important. Like how Olivia Pope works for the US President in the politically awakening series, "Scandal".

2. A realtor would go for this kind of outfit because of its functionality. Business trips to show around a client may take its toll on your feet. To avoid painful calves and bulging varicose veins, flats may come in necessary. The jacket would be helpful as well to keep her warm, making her unstoppable whenever the job requires for her to stay outdoors. The earrings and the necklace balances functionality with style. Slacks or pants allow modesty to flow while you remain up and about. You don't want them to see what they are not supposed to see as you climb up the stairs, do you?

3. Animal prints don't come slutty if you wear them right and if you'd combine it with decent shirts such as a polo with this kind of cut. Keep the hues subtle and the jewelries minimal. Notice the counter material for the animal print which was the leather to stand ground that you hold a reputation despite a little "let go" on the way you dress up. This set denotes a fierce attitude and the crisp shirt informs that you own an organised and tidy working table if you would strut in this.

4. Editors, publishers and people who actually owns a talent agency may be closing deals in this outfit in no time. Style may be owned by many but elegance is something that money can't buy. It is learned and looked up to. A lady that wears black and white colours with a touch of baby pink gives her outfit a certain level of quality about what she wants to share to the public, what she wants to build up in an audience and she would make all of these things happen in her own way. You could consider the outfitter of this to be a "people" kind of boss.

5. The minimalist fashionista need not be too loud with colour choices. Her wit and diction will say it all. Notice the lack of unnecessary accessories. A principal, CEO, or a businesswoman may be seen in this type of clothes. This style aims to imply an unshakeable morale. They mean business and people who opt for the all black hue usually don't take any shit. They take their jobs seriously that they may excuse one two many faults but definitely not more than that. Finish this outfit with your hair up and you're good to go.

6. This is another one for the bosses. Unless it's a casual lunch meeting, an event in the office where you just have to watch some presentation or a day for signing documents, I personally would not choose this since I have an athletic body type. Some flesh may be bulging out here and there. In the corporate world, it's best not to invoke or distract anybody with the way you emphasise your curves even when they are properly covered. The cut of this dress would enhance them so this would be beneficial for those who have a skinny body.

7. If you are comfortable in showing your perky style, do it by all means. It could be an inspiration to some. Our last set of clothes may be noticed amongst artists, creative advertisement directors, salon owners and interior designers. Because of their inclination to geometry, patterns and colours, they may have that need to submit to their ids and just let go every now and then. Usually, artists have a perky attitude and a flexible taste.

It is important to invest on the basics and to invest on sturdy yet comfortable black pumps. At all costs, it'd go down to it and black never disappoints nor fails. Just make sure that there is a balance that you should understand well between plains and prints. And one more important thing is, you're dressing up as you. You might find some pieces that may be a total contradiction to your taste but others in the same set likeable. Go for what you think matches most of your outfits to be able to get your money's worth.

ALCHEMY

For a year and a half, I have hibernated from going out for drinks with girlfriends.
As my baby had been weaning and is more into solid foods now,
I have indulged on a night at ALCHEMY
where Buddha tears mixed up with liquor
certainly gave me a different impact.

Remember this clip in Sex and the City 2 movie?
Yes, when you're a mom, "sips" may be needed
just to keep you sane and reconnected to yourself.

When you're a mom, you start to think not only of yourself. There's always something that needs your attention and you constantly are worried if you missed a thing in terms of nurturing, feeding, bonding time and future concerns. Needless to say, you somehow neglect yourself willingly that it may be too late for you to realise that you've lost yourself in the process. Having said this, I'd like to encourage you with a reminder, "You had a kid, yes. But you didn't die."

It's important that you have a handful of mommies as friends for you to be understood because the "single-no-kids" ones wouldn't get where you're coming from. At one point, you may be feeling a little aloof towards them because your priorities are different now. Let me tell you that to this account, you're not alone and so many mothers have been there. My good friend Jane, who had her daughter 2 years ago was asking me how I felt in going out, if I felt awkward since it doesn't feel the same way as before when didn't have kids yet. And I said, it's pretty much new to me again. I wasn't knowledgeable about the new trends in drinks, the place was new to me and I felt a stronger emotion than feeling awkward.... honestly, it was GUILT.

fresh Irish oysters with vinegar, tomato salsa
and extra virgin olive oil
But I'm a wide reader. I had a lot of questions so, I had to research. To counter my fear of intoxicating my baby thru the drinks, I read that I need to drink a barrel or 10 bottles of absinthe or any hard liquor before I would. That's good to know. So, I didn't hesitate on ordering the Buddha Tears where part liquor is mixed in with coconut juice, lemon drops and something else that it was like I was drinking the word "SPA" and everything about it.

There's a taste of lavender, lots of zen greens and kind of soil extract. You may think it's gross but, the after taste was rejuvenating. That was one of the highly recommended but I was trying to feel any hit, there was none. Until I ordered a mojito then a SAUVIGNON BLANC. On the side, my girlfriends and I ordered the fresh Irish oysters that were over-the-top good. We were just really supposed to be there for drinks but we got envious of the other table ordering the fabulously laid oysters so we got them. In addition, the home cooked spicy treats (popcorn, peanuts, raisins and almonds with pepper) were soooo delicious. I am not a fan of spicy food but I found myself digging for some and all 3 of us were popping them in because they were just irresistible.

It was an honour to know some people who were friends with the Chef (Chef Pascal) so we met him and had said our praises for how satisfying the oysters were. A little moment later, we were delivered these cranberry macaroons that were like no other. I never loved desserts. More so, if they are chocolatey. So I was eager to taste it right away and we had licked the syrup even because it was so tasty. In the end, our bill was around HK$1400+. 9 drinks all in all, the oysters, the dessert (free of charge) and loads and loads of treats (free of charge) to complete the bill.

-the best Cranberry Macaroons I've ever tasted-
The macaroons were home made.

I wanted the night to be spent smoothly in a way that I would be able to go out again after this one. So I asked to tag team with my husband to whom I owed a good night from, by being selfless and just wishing me a good time. My girlfriends and I headed home unexpectedly sober because we thought there was not that much alcohol in our drinks. We aren't alcoholic but just for your information about how we would critic the drinks. Food was great, be ready with around HK$400 in your pocket. Service charge was billed and since it is secluded from the chaotic Lan Kwai Fong, you could be assured of seats. A reservation is recommended though Thursdays all the way 'til the weekend.

I love these gals
Trivia about the place since we have met some of the chef's friends and had given us a background of who owns the place, all the French lounges and fine restaurants are owned by the same person. I had the chance to experience Le Budoir with my closest friends and boyfriend then (husband now) I think a little over 5 years ago, which is located on the left side of the street going up to Lan Kwai Fong (where the Cotton On is beside 7-11 and so forth), and it didn't disappoint. Actually, I loved that place.

When we visited Alchemy, it was a cold night that I had to buy a sweater. So I was so relieved that it was very warm inside. The ambiance was relaxing, homey as a matter of fact and for those who would love to have a good chat with mellow music, try having a drink here or two. I highly recommend it since it leads a way too to a dark dining restaurant that my friends and I are aiming to experience before one leaves for Dubai for good.

Here's a movie that features one dark dining restaurant that may ignite the curious in you.

GRAND COLOANE RESORT

One thing my husband and I aim to have when traveling is TIME in our hands. We are open to doing some activities but we avoid planned tours as much as possible since that always require leaving early and maximising the day outdoors. Don't get me wrong, we would love to know a place that we would visit for the first time, but we would like it to be at our own pace.

This year, our daughter, Brave, who just turned 6 months, joined us in the annual getaway. This made us excited because it's her first time. But we were preparing ourselves also for more challenging times. As parents, we had to shake our heads "NO" (the more) to a fast paced vacation. We had to choose something that we'll all feel relaxed with. And living in closed small apartments here in Hong Kong was also a factor to reconsider when we choose a location to unwind in. We decided to go somewhere near the nature. All of these demands were met by Grand Coloane Resort in Macau.

Grand Coloane Resort in Macau
Yes, it's not your typical hotel in Macau. Why?

Every traveler somewhat relies on reviews about how other people's experience went when they had stayed in a hotel they're eyeing. So I'll start off with how functional this place is.

The Grand Coloane, which was the former Westin Macau, is far from all the hotels that hold the casinos and bars. It is built by the coast surrounded by a walk trail on the north east (facing out the balcony) and on the west side, a golf course that can be accessed thru the top deck of the Grand Coloane extending into a 18-hole, 71 par course of greens. Sharing the excitement with two other families, one with a daughter as well, had made it all much awaited for. Their website says, "Green fees per guest for 18 holes are MOP$ 1,200 on weekdays and MOP $2,400 on weekends and public holidays, plus applicable taxes. Resort guests must book their tee times in advance."

As we reached the reception area to be checked in (Check in: 3pm, Check out: 12nn), we were welcomed warmly by Filipino workers which made me comfortable as they are more than accommodating and are very genuine in giving off service. (I mean come on, some bellboys are just really after the tip sometimes!) They conversed in English fluently and confidently and they had made sure that all of our luggages are secured. My friend from Portland, USA was amazed with how much space the receiving area had and how it smelled good as we entered. I was amazed with the refreshing treats, our daughters were amazed with the live fishes that reside on a pool nested on each side of the bridge way from the entrance leading to the reception area and our husbands felt lucky getting upgraded to a sea view as the resort is facing the South China Sea (which I know costed a lot than what we booked for which was the Garden View). In consideration of the golfing fees plus the accommodation, we planned to go for the weekdays but when we got there, we got more of what we paid for to start off.

In reaching our room, I noticed that the hotel maybe a little old in style but it surely was high tech in everything. The lights, air conditioning and temperature has access buttons from the bedside table and the balcony extended to a good sea view which also makes the playground, the garden and the outdoor pool so tempting. The picture above, showcasing the view from our balcony, was taken from our room and the only waterloo was the "bed" weather. The room was huge with a spacious toilet, bedroom, receiving area and balcony. Again, it was beyond my husband's and my expectation.

An elevated King Size Bed which is the best representation
of this hotel's "East Meets West" Imagery

My baby had reserved this chaise lounge for her
pleasure of indulging in a nice view

The bathroom are comprised of a shower which is separated from the
bathtub with a marble floor extension.
The "bed weather" didn't stop us from exploring around the resort. The first night, the gentlemen had hit the gym and the ladies had hit the Pilates class. The gang had a dip in the pool and it was rejuvenating. I didn't go for a swim so, I was basically awake by 5am. Paid for a MOP120 for a 24hour internet access and just fell asleep around 6am again. Like I said, the internet access was high tech in a way that no slip with the time may happen since it will give out a signage on your phone upon connecting the exact time you had availed of it, complete with milli seconds. In addition, a counter is there for your own consult of how much time you still have left for your paid usage.

I had a good rest but my baby had quite noticed we were not at home so she may have needed to adjust by no challenges to defy our comfort. She was alright by the morning. And so by then, the breakfast buffet was ready for us. Perhaps, it wasn't peak season yet, (hence the upgrade) it was basically just us indulging on a wide healthy array of breakfast.

We trekked the walk trail to the golf course. With our walk talkies at hand, some were able to explore beyond the trails. It was fun even though I had to walk on my black flats over the wet grass. Fortunately, the gym was offering rubber shoes for hire FOR THE ENTIRE DAY that costed just MOP$40, a little over HK$40 basically. Of course I had checked the shoes, they felt and smelled new. What a good hotel, right!?

Renting the shoes and paying for the driving range experience

Behind us was the golf course that was perfectly trimmed
yet it was drizzling so we just had to end up in the driving range
for a 30-minute golfing experience.

You know what else? The rental for all shoes (including the golf shoes) is MOP40 right? Well, the driving range for 30 minutes was just MOP120 with golf balls and clubs provided. I'm not that much of a golfer but that was really worth every penny for such good experience already. I'm not that much of a professional to go for the full on whole day's game. Plus with these folks, the trip got heightened up to one of the most fun vacations I've had. In the afternoon, before our friends Harry and Phoebe went to see the "House of Dancing Waters", they played a fun game of Soccer. I looked after Brave and I was thinking while watching them that I've never felt so happy and complete. Good times.

Another thrilling treat were the Portuguese restaurants that surrounded the resort. It was beyond delicious and the serving were pretty overboard that we have some food to take to the hotel. My husband is a fan of guest service though so he had to give it to himself twice during the entire trip. There's something about it that he finds fulfilling. He ordered a burger, I was able to taste the Nasigoreng and he went for another fish and ships.

We noticed as we walked to the Portuguese restaurants for dinner that the ambiance of the hotel changes during the night. They put up candles to make the sitting room more than appealing. It made it relaxing and soothing as different lavender and vanilla scents blend altogether. The piano wasn't just a display for the record. Well, a lot of Filipinos work there so, as expected, it was a Filipino musician. I felt proud.

The next day, we hit the driving range again after breakfast right before checking out. Some of our friends had to go back to Hong Kong earlier. But it was on the 3rd day that the sun came out and we thought of passing by the ruins as I've never been there. When we were done, all of our luggages were safely guarded even if we have checked out already. Lastly, their shuttle bus was on time and were prompt enough to cater our intention of taking the 630pm bus out of Macau.

All in all, it was truly a very good choice that we made. I'd rate Grand Coloane Resort Macau 3.5 stars out of 5 as a luxury hotel. All our expectations were met and more. I have to admit that their hotel needed some repainting and the chairs out the balcony are not the same as how they featured it in the website but it's understandable. They had to maintain it and it's impossible to do so with an upholstered furniture.

Lamb and Seafood Stew with side dishes and Hogan's fruit punch. Hahaha!
